Microsoft Xbox division set for business overhaul under CEO Asha Sharma

Microsoft’s Xbox division is undergoing a comprehensive business reset after CEO Asha Sharma announced a “total reboot” aimed at making the platform sustainable and profitable. The plan, to be detailed in July, emphasizes a stronger focus on exclusive titles for the Xbox Series X|S, tighter integration of console, PC, cloud and mobile gaming, and a restructuring of hardware and publishing operations.

Satya Nadella echoed the urgency, noting that Xbox has been subsidized and that the company must now monetize its entertainment offerings. Supply‑chain constraints, including semiconductor shortages, were cited as temporary hurdles. Strategy director Matthew Ball highlighted the competitive gap with PlayStation and Nintendo, stressing that compelling exclusives are essential to attract new players and retain existing ones. The overhaul seeks to clarify Xbox’s value proposition and restore confidence among gamers and partners.

The initiative reflects Microsoft’s broader effort to turn Xbox into a profitable segment while navigating intense market competition and rising costs.
