Microsoft Xbox prepares new layoffs amid employee retaliation warnings

Reports indicate that Microsoft’s Xbox division is gearing up for another round of layoffs that could affect studios, projects and staff. Former Xbox employees have warned current workers that raising concerns about a toxic work environment or filing complaints may trigger retaliation, including placement in Performance Improvement Programs (PIPs) or dismissal. One ex‑employee described being laid off after protesting a manager’s behavior, while another said a PIP was used as a pretext for departure. The former staff advise colleagues to preserve evidence and consult legal counsel before signing any agreements. Microsoft has not confirmed the allegations or commented on the pending cuts, which come after multiple restructuring waves over the past two years that have already reshaped the gaming business and drawn scrutiny to its public image.
