Microsoft's Xbox Helix forecast to sell just 2 million units in its first year
Analysts estimate that Microsoft’s upcoming Xbox Helix console will move only about two million units during its first year, a figure far below the launch volumes of competing PlayStation and Nintendo Switch 2 devices. The projection reflects a slow start for the new generation, amid a broader market downturn and supply‑chain challenges that have already pressured Microsoft’s current Series X/S consoles.
The project, dubbed Helix, is also being positioned as a hybrid between a traditional console and a PC, with AMD hardware, AI‑assisted upscaling similar to Nvidia’s DLSS, and an open‑store model that could allow alternative game storefronts. Microsoft’s recent leadership change—Phil Spencer succeeded by Isha Sharma—comes as the division faces layoffs, studio closures, and a stalled Xbox Game Pass subscriber target, all influencing the console’s strategic direction.
If realized, Helix could phase out physical game discs, further aligning the Xbox ecosystem with digital‑first, PC‑like experiences.
