Middle East energy security threatened by tanker attack and Aramco facility strike

Tensions in the Middle East have escalated following a series of attacks on energy infrastructure and maritime vessels. The Royal Navy of Oman successfully rescued 16 crew members from a Saudi-flagged oil tanker that was attacked in the Strait of Hormuz. Saudi authorities previously confirmed that two Filipino sailors were killed during the incident. The rescue operation, conducted by Oman’s maritime security center, provided essential logistics and medical care to the survivors.

In a separate incident, a Saudi Aramco oil facility in Jizan, located near the Yemen border, was targeted in a new attack. While the full extent of the damage to the infrastructure remains under assessment, the incident has caused crude oil prices to rise, with Brent crude reaching approximately $97 per barrel. No group has officially claimed responsibility for the Jizan attack, though it occurs amid ongoing friction between Saudi Arabia and Houthi rebels. The Jizan refinery has a daily capacity of approximately 400,000 barrels of crude oil.

These developments occur against a backdrop of heightened geopolitical conflict between the United States and Iran, which has increased security risks for commercial shipping in strategic waterways.
