Midis prepares social programs for climate emergencies in Peru

The Peruvian Ministry of Development and Social Inclusion (Midis) is implementing measures to ensure the continuity of social programs during climate emergencies, such as El Niño and heavy rains. Minister Maritza Canales Martínez announced that if weather conditions force the closure of schools, the School Feeding Program (PAE)—which serves approximately 4 million students—will pivot to delivering hot meals directly to households.

Additionally, the Cuna Más program will adapt its operations by utilizing tents or rented facilities to maintain services for children up to 36 months old. In the Loreto region, specifically in Santa Rosa de Loreto, the ministry is strengthening state presence through the development of the Tambo Santa Rosa project, which is currently 25% complete. This infrastructure is intended to provide connectivity, solar energy, and water services to over 1,900 residents in rural areas.

To reach remote Amazonian communities, the ministry is also deploying Mobile Social Action Platforms (PIAS). These platforms are expected to cover 405 service points across 14 provinces in the Loreto, Ucayali, and Puno regions, providing essential services in health and identity documentation.
