Overview

Peru’s Ministry of Development and Social Inclusion (Midis) has introduced various initiatives to enhance the efficacy and resilience of its social programs.

Initial efforts focused on fostering economic autonomy and professional development. In collaboration with Women in Mining Peru (WIM Peru), Midis promoted STEM careers for young women in social programs to improve employability and poverty reduction. More recently, the ministry has shifted focus toward preparing social programs for climate emergencies, such as El Niño. Minister Maritza Canales Martínez announced contingency plans, including pivoting the School Feeding Program (PAE) to direct household meal delivery if schools close. The Cuna Más program is adapting to use tents or rented facilities to maintain services for young children. In the Loreto region, the ministry is developing the Tambo Santa Rosa project to provide connectivity and essential services, while deploying Mobile Social Action Platforms (PIAS) to deliver health and identity services to remote Amazonian communities.
