Migrant caravan of 300 enters Mexico from Guatemala
A migrant caravan named ‘Fe y Esperanza’ consisting of approximately 300 people, primarily from Honduras, has entered Mexico from Guatemala. The group departed from San Pedro Sula, Honduras, last Sunday and traveled through Guatemala before crossing peacefully into the Mexican state of Chiapas via the Rodolfo Robles international bridge.
The migrants, which include men, women, and children, walked roughly 40 kilometers over a 12-hour period through several municipalities, including Suchiate and Tuxtla Chico, before arriving in the border city of Tapachula. While many in the group intend to continue north toward the United States, others expressed interest in staying in Mexico if they can regularize their legal status and find employment.
Economic hardship was cited by several participants as the primary driver for the journey. Some members of the caravan have already decided to alter their plans due to personal circumstances or a desire to seek stability within Mexican territory.
