Migrant caravan of 350 people advances through Chiapas toward Oaxaca

A migrant caravan known as ‘Fe y Esperanza con Dios’, consisting of approximately 350 people—mostly from Central America—has resumed its journey through the coast of Chiapas toward Oaxaca. The group departed from Tonalá on Friday afternoon, traveling along federal highway Mexico 200 toward Arriaga to complete their final stretch within the state.

The group's progress was delayed by one day due to heavy rainfall that soaked their belongings and created unsafe travel conditions on the highway. During their two-week trek, migrants have faced precarious living conditions, including sleeping outdoors, enduring extreme heat and rain, and lacking access to hygiene facilities. Some members, including minors, are reportedly suffering from fever and other health issues.

The caravan originated in San Pedro Sula, Honduras, on September 20 and entered Mexico via Suchiate, Chiapas, four days later. Despite tightening immigration policies and warnings regarding the risks of irregular migration, the group maintains its objective of reaching the United States.
