Migrant caravan travels through southern Mexico toward U.S. border
A caravan of several hundred migrants, primarily from Central American nations including Honduras, El Salvador, Guatemala, and Nicaragua, is traveling on foot through southern Mexico. The group, which includes men, women, and families with children, has described their trek as a journey of “faith and hope.”
Some members of the group expressed a desire for both Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum and U.S. President Donald Trump to facilitate their passage so they may find work. The movement comes amid a period of heightened border security and high asylum denial rates in the United States.
Reports indicate that some participants intend to position themselves near the U.S.-Mexico border during the midterm election cycle, with some suggesting a hope that a Democratic victory might result in more lenient border policies. The group includes additional nationals from Haiti, Venezuela, Cuba, and Nicaragua.
