Migrant rescues reported in El Hierro and Algeciras

Multiple migrant rescue operations have taken place across the Canary Islands and the Strait of Gibraltar. In El Hierro, Salvamento Marítimo rescued 268 people from a vessel that had been at sea for eleven days. This group included four minors and 17 women, with individuals originating from Senegal, Gambia, Guinea Conakry, Mali, Guinea Bissau, and Ivory Coast.

Following this initial rescue, authorities intercepted two additional expeditions near El Hierro. One group of approximately 100 people was assisted by the Guardamar Polimnia, while a third vessel was detected 22 kilometers south of the island.

In the Strait of Gibraltar, separate incidents were reported. Salvamento Marítimo rescued 13 Maghrebi migrants from an inflatable boat near Tarifa, transferring them to the Port of Algeciras. Additionally, a rubber boat carrying roughly 15 migrants landed at the Faro de Algeciras during heavy fog; while three individuals were located by local police, others reportedly dispersed into nearby mountainous terrain.
