Migration enforcement intensifies in Chile and Dominican Republic

Authorities in Chile and the Dominican Republic are intensifying enforcement actions against irregular migration.

In Antofagasta, Chile, the Investigations Police (PDI) conducted an operation in the city center and commercial areas, inspecting 60 foreign citizens. The deployment resulted in ten reports for irregular entry, expired residency, or unauthorized employment, and one administrative expulsion order for a Venezuelan national. The operation also led to three reports against employers for hiring foreign workers without proper legal permits.

In the Dominican Republic, the General Directorate of Migration (DGM) announced that individuals who obstruct migration operations, assault staff, or facilitate the stay of undocumented foreigners will face legal action. Director Luis Rafael Lee Ballester stated that the institution is opening cases against those who interfere with interdiction efforts, including those renting spaces to irregular migrants. The DGM reported that over 705,000 foreigners have been deported during his tenure, with approximately 228,000 deportations occurring so far this year.
