Miguel Guillén seeks reelection as PLN Secretary General

Miguel Guillén, the current Secretary General of Costa Rica’s National Liberation Party (PLN), has announced his candidacy for reelection. The announcement comes ahead of the party's National Assembly scheduled for October 10, where the National Executive Committee will be elected.

Guillén’s decision follows public opposition from former presidential candidate Álvaro Ramos, who stated 19 days ago that he does not support Guillén’s continuity in the role. While Guillén noted that he supported Ramos during the electoral campaign, Ramos has indicated he is looking toward other leadership options for the party.

Guillén cited his 37-year history with the party and his desire to build a strong PLN that defends democracy and social justice as his primary motivations. He emphasized that his candidacy is driven by conviction rather than personal interest.
