Miguel Ángel Solano Ruiz linked to 23 million pesos in unexplained deposits
Federal authorities in Mexico have identified more than 23 million pesos in deposits with no clear origin in the bank accounts of Miguel Ángel Solano Ruiz, a retired corvette captain known as ‘Capitán Sol’. Solano Ruiz is currently held at the El Altiplano maximum-security prison.
According to financial intelligence provided by the Unidad de Inteligencia Financiera (UIF), the retired officer reported only pension income, yet investigators found massive unexplained transactions. These include over 3.5 million pesos in one account and approximately 5.6 million pesos in another. Additionally, authorities noted more than 5 million pesos in cash deposits and transfers from labor unions, such as the Sindicato de Trabajadores Proactivos de la República Mexicana, between 2020 and 2022.
The Fiscalía General de la República (FGR) has accused Solano Ruiz of involvement in organized crime related to hydrocarbon offenses, with the aggravating factor of being a public servant. Investigations also highlighted deposits from various companies, including Herzap Transportes, S.A. de C.V. and Operadora Saenmar, S.A. de C.V., during 2018 and 2019.
