Miguel Quintero, brother of ex‑Mayor Daniel Quintero, indicted over fire‑brigade contracts in Medellín

Miguel Quintero Calle, brother of former Medellín mayor Daniel Quintero, has been summoned by the Fiscalía General de la Nación. During a recent visit he sparked public speculation about his involvement in ongoing investigations into alleged irregularities in public contracting during Daniel Quintero’s administration.

The Fiscalía has now filed a formal request to indict Miguel Quintero and three other individuals for directing contracts between the Área Metropolitana del Valle de Aburrá (AMVA) and the Itagüí fire department. Prosecutors allege that the six contracts, signed between 2020 and 2022 and valued at roughly COP 17.6 billion, were awarded directly and involved the diversion of public funds and the receipt of commissions. Charges include illicit interest in contract execution and embezzlement. The indictment also names former AMVA officials and a contractor as co‑accused.

The investigation remains ongoing, with no final verdict yet, but the case adds pressure to the former mayor’s circle amid broader scrutiny of public‑contract procurement in the region.
