Mihajlo Simin wins silver at Budapest Judo Grand Slam
Serbian judokas Mihajlo Simin and Vasilije Grujičić achieved significant results at the Grand Slam in Budapest, earning valuable points toward Olympic Games qualification.
Mihajlo Simin, representing Red Star Belgrade, secured the silver medal in the under 81 kg category. After defeating opponents from Montenegro, Ukraine, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan, Simin faced Japan's Yoshito Hoyama in a closely contested final. Simin noted that the result provides momentum heading into the World Championships, despite some dissatisfaction with officiating during the final match.
Vasilije Grujičić, also competing in the under 81 kg category, finished in fifth place. After victories against competitors from Hungary, Canada, and Azerbaijan, he was eliminated in the semifinals by a Moldovan athlete, narrowly missing out on a bronze medal.
