Mike Ditka dies at 86 as NFL honors legend during Bears-Packers game
NFL legend and Chicago Bears Hall of Fame player and coach Mike Ditka has died at age 86. Known as “Iron Mike,” Ditka revolutionized the tight end position and led the Bears to a Super Bowl XX championship in 1985.
During the Chicago Bears' Week 5 matchup against the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field, the NFL community honored Ditka's legacy. Tributes included a moment of silence, the Bears wearing No. 89 helmet decals, and fans attending in his iconic jersey and sweater vest.
On the field, the Green Bay Packers defeated the Bears 31-7. Packers quarterback Jordan Love recorded 367 passing yards and two touchdowns, marking a significant performance against his division rivals. The Bears played without starting quarterback Caleb Williams, who is recovering from a hamstring injury, and relied on Tyson Bagent and Case Keenum.
