Mike Hammer verifies U.S. humanitarian aid distribution in Cuba

Mike Hammer, head of the U.S. diplomatic mission in Cuba, visited Alquízar in the Artemisa province to oversee the distribution of $100 million in humanitarian aid. The aid, announced by the Trump administration, is intended to reach vulnerable families directly, bypassing the Cuban regime.

During his visit, Hammer verified the delivery of essential supplies, including rice, beans, sugar, hygiene products, and solar lamps. The distribution is being coordinated through Cáritas Cuba and local parish networks, following a strategy that allocates $60 million via the Catholic Church and $40 million to independent non-governmental organizations. This marks Hammer's third visit to beneficiaries as part of a direct verification effort.

In a separate diplomatic development, Hammer met with the Bahamian Ambassador to Cuba, Dr. Elliston Rahming, to discuss the ongoing situation in Cuba and shared Caribbean interests. The meeting takes place amid shifting regional dynamics, including recent pressure on the Bahamas regarding Cuban medical brigades and ongoing humanitarian efforts by Caribbean neighbors to address Cuba's severe medication shortages.
