Mike Teunissen says Pogacar could win ten stages as he returns to the Tour de France
Dutch rider Mike Teunissen will ride the Tour de France with the XDS Astana team, acting as a lead‑out man for sprinter Max Kanter. He said the race now offers far fewer chances for classic‑type riders, noting that stages that once suited them are increasingly decided on steep climbs.
Teunissen highlighted the dominance of current champion Tadej Pogacar, stating that "Pogacar could win ten stages this year if he wanted." He added that the sport has become so competitive that small advantages such as nutrition or course knowledge no longer make a significant difference, and that all riders are constantly improving.
The comments reflect Teunissen’s mixed feelings about another Tour appearance after previously winning a stage and wearing the yellow jersey in 2019, and underline broader changes in professional cycling.
