Milan approves M3 metro extension to Peschiera Borromeo

The Milan City Council has approved the Technical and Economic Feasibility Project (PFTE) for the extension of the M3 metro line along the Paullese axis. This administrative step is required to apply for funding from the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport for rapid mass transit.

The approved plan involves extending the yellow line from its current terminus at San Donato Milanese to Peschiera Borromeo. The project includes approximately four kilometers of new underground track, the construction of two intermediate stations, and a multi-level interchange parking lot with approximately 1,315 spaces near the new terminus.

The total estimated economic framework for the project is 772 million euros, including VAT and related charges. Technical studies evaluated several alternatives, including a metro-tramway line to Paullo, but concluded that extending the M3 was the only sustainable solution regarding the cost-benefit ratio.
