Milan M1 metro line extension
Overview
Construction has officially commenced on the extension of Milan’s M1 red metro line toward the Baggio district. The project involves a 3.3-kilometer underground expansion starting from the current terminus at Bisceglie, which will add three new stations: Parri-Valsesia, Baggio, and Olmi.
The extension is expected to take approximately four years and aims to serve roughly 60,000 residents with an estimated 7.5 million passengers per year. Beyond subway infrastructure, the plan includes urban redevelopment featuring 108,000 square meters of lawns, the planting of over 3,000 trees and shrubs, new cycle paths, and the renovation of the Aics sports center in the Olmi neighborhood.
