Milan families file class action against Meta and TikTok
Ten families in Milan have launched a class action lawsuit against Meta and TikTok, alleging that social media platforms have detrimental effects on the mental health of minors. The legal proceedings, which include references to internal corporate documents and testimonies from former employees, are scheduled for a hearing on November 19 before Judge Nicola Fascilla.
In response to these developments, the political group Meritocrazia Italia has issued an urgent call to the Meloni government to implement new legislation regarding social media use. The group is re-submitting its proposed 'Testo Unico' (Unified Text) for social network regulation, advocating for preventive measures rather than punitive ones. Meritocrazia Italia expressed concern over the impact of obsessive digital connectivity on the ability of younger generations to develop critical thinking and real-world social skills.
