Milan Court recognizes premeditation in Giulia Tramontano murder

The Milan Court of Assize of Appeal has recognized the aggravating factor of premeditation for Alessandro Impagnatiello in the murder of his partner, Giulia Tramontano. Tramontano, who was seven months pregnant at the time, was killed with 37 stab wounds in Senago on May 27, 2023.

The decision follows a ruling by the Court of Cassation, which ordered a re-evaluation of the aggravating factor previously excluded in a second-degree judgment. Evidence supporting premeditation includes Impagnatiello’s administration of rat poison to the victim starting in December 2022, as well as online searches regarding lethal substances and methods for disposing of a body.

Impagnatiello, who is already serving a life sentence, will now also serve three months of daytime isolation. The verdict was met with applause from the victim's family in the courtroom. The prosecution emphasized that the defendant's actions demonstrated a persistent intent to cause harm, characterizing his conduct as a calculated series of lies and violence.
