Italy implements new anti-smog and transport measures

Various regions across Italy are implementing new environmental and labor measures for the upcoming season. In the Po Valley, the Italian government has postponed the structural ban on Euro 5 diesel vehicles until October 1, 2027. To compensate, regions including Emilia-Romagna, Lombardy, Veneto, and Piedmont are introducing alternative restrictions, such as delaying the heating season until November 1 and extending daily traffic limitation hours.

In urban areas, local authorities are intensifying security and regulatory enforcement. Milan has conducted large-scale police operations in the Centrale and Gratosoglio districts, resulting in multiple arrests and vehicle checks. Meanwhile, transport sectors face potential disruptions: an air traffic strike is scheduled for September 30 affecting major airports like Milan Linate and Bologna, and an ATM strike in Milan is expected on October 9. In Sicily, transport workers have announced a five-day strike starting October 16 to protest rising fuel costs and unpaid subsidies.
