Battar Zahani repatriated to Tunisia after Milan rabbi incident

Battar Zahani, a 21-year-old engineering student, has been repatriated to Tunisia following an investigation into the aggression of Rabbi Tzemach Mizrachi in Milan on September 16. The incident occurred in Piazzale Bande Nere, where the rabbi was reportedly insulted and his hat was taken.

Zahani, who was born in Como and raised in the Lodi region, maintains that the incident was a joke and denies any hatred toward the Jewish community or Israel. He claims he did not physically strike the rabbi, stating he was merely recording a video with his phone while his brother allegedly kicked the rabbi's legs.

Following the announcement by Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi, Zahani was transferred to Tunisia. He expressed a desire to return to Italy, stating, “My life is in Italy,” and noted that he considers Italy the country where he was born and raised. He is currently awaiting further legal clarity regarding his case.
