Milan suburban railway reopens after maintenance closure

The Milan suburban railway passante has resumed full operations following a nearly month-long closure for scheduled maintenance conducted by Rete Ferroviaria Italiana (RFI). As of Monday, August 31, service has been restored on several key lines, including the S1 (Saronno-Milano-Lodi), S5 (Varese-Treviglio), and S13 (Garbagnate-Milano-Pavia). This reopening restores direct connections and reactivates major underground stations such as Milano Lancetti, Porta Garibaldi Sotterranea, Repubblica, Porta Venezia, Dateo, and Porta Vittoria.

However, service on the S6 line (Novara-Pioltello) remains partially restricted. Due to construction for the new Milano Mind station, trains will only run between Novara and Rho until September 13, requiring passengers traveling toward central Milan to transfer at Rho.

With the restoration of regular rail service, the extraordinary measures implemented during the closure have ended. Specifically, Trenord tickets and passes can no longer be used on ATM urban transport (trams, buses, and the metro) as a substitute for rail travel.
