Military Region 9 transports 15,401 martyr remains for DNA testing
On October 5, Military Region 9 coordinated with the Air Force and local authorities to transport 15,401 samples of martyr remains from Can Tho to Hanoi for DNA testing. This mission aims to identify the remains of fallen soldiers.
The samples were transported via a CASA-C295 military aircraft operated by the 918th Aviation Brigade. Upon arrival in Hanoi, the biological samples will be handed over to the Military Institute of Forensic Science, the Institute of Criminal Science under the Ministry of Public Security, and the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology for forensic analysis.
This operation is part of the ‘500-day campaign’ to accelerate the search, collection, and identification of martyr remains. Lieutenant General Ho Van Thai, Political Commissar of Military Region 9, described the flight as a mission of gratitude and a profound humanitarian effort to honor those who sacrificed their lives for the nation.
