Miljöpartiet sees electoral gains in Sweden and Stockholm

The Green Party (Miljöpartiet) is seeing significant gains in the Swedish elections. Nationally, projections suggest the party will reach 6.1 percent in the parliamentary election, an increase of one percentage point compared to 2022 and a notable rise from the 2018 results.

In Stockholm, the party is experiencing even more substantial growth. With over 90 percent of voting districts counted, Miljöpartiet appears to be the largest winner in the Stockholm municipal election, increasing its share by more than five percentage points and nearly doubling its 2022 result. This marks the party's best municipal performance in a decade.

Party spokespeople Daniel Helldén and Amanda Lind expressed optimism during their election night celebrations, noting that the party enters this mandate period stronger than in recent years. Annika Hirvonen, the party's parliamentary group leader, attributed the results to voters seeking fair climate transition and increased equality rather than tactical voting.
