Millennium bim proposes tailored credit and training for Mozambican women entrepreneurs
Millennium bim is advocating for specialized financing solutions designed to meet the specific needs of women entrepreneurs in Mozambique. During the II Women’s Economic Forum in Maputo, executive board member Liliana Catoja emphasized that mere access to banking services is insufficient for equitable economic participation.
Catoja noted that financial institutions must provide support that evolves with a business, from initial organization to market expansion. This initiative follows data from the Bank of Mozambique’s 2024 Financial Inclusion Report, which indicated that women accounted for only 31% of credit and 34% of individual deposits in records where gender data was available.
To address these gaps, Millennium bim is developing products such as the ‘Linha Mulher Empresária’ credit line and microcredit options for less formalized economic activities. The bank is also establishing partnerships focused on financial education and business capacity-building to support both new startups and established small and medium-sized enterprises led by women.
