Milorad Dodik warns of lies and urges Serbian unity at Bratunac commemoration

Serbian leader Milorad Dodik addressed a ceremony in Bratunac marking more than three decades since the killing of 3,267 Serbs in the middle Podrinje and Birč region during the 1992‑1995 war. He said, “Laž uvijek propadne, a istina nikad ne nestane” (a lie always collapses, truth never disappears) and lamented that the suffering of Serbs has been largely ignored by the international community and the Muslim community.

Dodik criticised narratives he described as politically motivated, rejecting accounts of Muslim casualties in Srebrenica and other sites while citing the International Criminal Tribunal’s figure of about 4,100 Serbian victims. He called for stronger Serbian national interest, accused the current U.S. administration of undermining the Dayton Agreement, and urged that “only where a people have their own state do they have freedom.” The event also commemorated the 34‑year anniversary of the 1992 Petrovdan killings near Srebrenica and Bratunac, where 69 civilians and soldiers were killed and 22 taken hostage, none surviving.
