Dodik's Bosnia commemorations and political role

In early July 2026, Milorad Dodik addressed a ceremony in Bratunac marking the 34‑year anniversary of the 1992 Petrovdan killings and broader wartime Serbian casualties. He used the platform to recount what he described as false narratives about Muslim victims, condemned the U.S. administration for undermining the Dayton Agreement, and called for stronger Serbian national interests.

A month later, Dodik was appointed head of the organising committee for an August commemoration of the 1995 military actions in Republika Srpska, effectively supplanting the constitutionally elected president. The event, set to feature Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić, highlighted Dodik’s continued control over RS institutions. Simultaneously, supporters launched a petition to list Dodik as a “living human heritage” with UNESCO, a move that underscores his symbolic stature among his base despite UNESCO’s rules against individual listings.
