Santa Luzia, Brazil receives Mobile Health Unit offering specialist consultations and ultrasounds

From 15 June to 19 June, the Carreta Saúde Mais Perto mobile health unit arrived in Santa Luzia, part of the Belo Horizonte metropolitan area. The initiative, launched by the Minas Gerais State Health Secretariat (SES‑MG), provides on‑site specialist consultations in cardiology, angiology and endocrinology, as well as breast, axillary, abdominal, urinary‑tract and pelvic ultrasounds. The unit is scheduled to handle up to 73 consultations and 100 exams each day, aiming for more than 300 specialist visits and 500 ultrasounds during its stay on Rua Azulão, 297. Appointments are arranged through the municipal health secretary and require a referral from a basic health unit.

The program, funded with roughly R$ 10 million, operates four equipped mobile units that have already served over 3 000 patients in numerous Minas Gerais municipalities, including Belo Horizonte, Contagem, Diamantina and others. It is part of a broader state strategy to reduce waiting lists for specialized procedures and bring advanced care closer to residents.
