Minas Gerais government regularizes land for over 1,600 urban and rural families

The Minas Gerais state government, led by Governor Mateus Simões, has accelerated the "Governo Presente" program to deliver legal land‑title documents to families across the state. Between March 26 and early May, officials handed out 164 urban regularisation titles in municipalities such as União de Minas, allowing residents like Cícera Maria da Silva to finally obtain formal ownership after years of waiting. In the same period, 1,501 rural titles were issued to producers in 29 municipalities, including the Vale do Jequitinhonha, where 76‑year‑old farmer José Francisco Fernandes received his title after a 40‑year delay. The programme, funded with R$ 6 million, aims to grant legal security, improve access to credit and strengthen family agriculture. Since 2019 the state has delivered more than 14,300 titles and expects to reach 18,000 by year‑end, covering over 160 municipalities and benefiting thousands of households.

The initiative is part of a broader effort to bring state services to interior regions, promote urban development and support rural economies through secure property rights.
