Minas Gerais government urges yellow fever vaccination

The Government of Minas Gerais, through the State Health Secretariat (SES-MG), is emphasizing the importance of maintaining up-to-date vaccination records to prevent yellow fever. The disease is an acute viral infection transmitted by the Aedes aegypti mosquito and can be fatal.

In 2026, while no human cases have been confirmed in the state, 69 suspected cases have been reported. Additionally, 632 epizootics involving non-human primates were notified, with 33 confirmed to carry the yellow fever virus.

Vaccination coverage in Minas Gerais rose from 84.91% in 2025 to 87.50% in 2026, but it remains below the 95% target set by the Ministry of Health. Health officials recommend using repellents and protective clothing as additional measures to prevent mosquito bites.
