Yellow fever vaccination challenges in Brazil

Overview

Public health officials in Brazil are addressing challenges regarding yellow fever vaccination coverage across different states.

In Minas Gerais, the State Health Secretariat is urging citizens to update vaccination records following 69 suspected human cases and 632 reported epizootics involving non-human primates. Although vaccination coverage in the state increased from 84.91% in 2025 to 87.50% in 2026, it remains below the 95% target established by the Ministry of Health.

In the state of Acre, vaccination rates for infants under one year old have failed to meet health authority parameters. During the first half of 2026, none of the state's 22 municipalities reached the 95% target, with the state average recorded at 69.84%. This figure is slightly above the North Region average of 69.65% but remains below the national average of 75.17%.
