Minas Gerais governor Mateus Simões inspects new health unit in Carmo do Rio Claro

On 9 June 2024, Minas Gerais Governor Mateus Simões toured the construction site of a new Basic Health Unit (UBS) in Carmo do Rio Claro, a town in the state’s southwest. The project, launched in May 2024, is reported to be 90 % finished and slated to open in October 2026. The state invested R$ 2.25 million in the facility, which will serve about 3 000 residents and provide primary‑care services such as medical, dental and nursing consultations, home visits, vaccination, prenatal care, cancer screening and treatment of sexually transmitted infections.

The UBS is part of the “Governo Presente” tour that has visited 19 municipalities, aiming to expand Minas Gerais’ primary‑care network to 380 units by the end of 2026. Since 2019, the state has allocated nearly R$ 8.3 million to primary‑care projects in Carmo do Rio Claro and total municipal health fund contributions now exceed R$ 22.5 million.
