Minas Gerais launches R$57 million substation project to boost power for 35,000 residents

The Minas Gerais state government inspected new electric‑grid facilities in the municipality of Luz, completing a R$57.4 million investment that includes the Luz 2 substation and the Lagoa da Prata 1–Luz 2 distribution line. The substation has a 15 MVA capacity and the line spans 32 km at 138 kV, projects aimed at improving reliability and expanding capacity in a key agribusiness region.

Governor Mateus Simões said the works will raise electricity availability by about 150 % and support solar farms, industry and central pivots for agriculture, directly benefiting roughly 35 000 people in Luz and nearby Córrego Danta. The rollout is part of Cemig’s “Mais Energia” program, which plans to invest about R$5 billion through 2027 to install around 200 new substations statewide, a 50 % increase in grid capacity.

The inspection also involved Cemig’s president Alexandre Ramos, super‑intendant Wellington Cancian, Luz mayor Ailton Duarte and local legislators, underscoring the state’s push to modernize the power network and promote regional economic development.
