Minas Gerais launches social‑tariff campaign and solar‑energy discount program
On 12 June, Governor Mateus Simões inaugurated the "Conta + Justa" campaign in Belo Horizonte to inform low‑income families about social tariffs for water, sewage and electricity. The program targets roughly 1.1 million Cemig electricity customers and 718 000 Copasa water users, offering discounts of up to 100 % on electricity and 65 % on water bills once households update their CadÚnico registration. Information will be spread through leaflets, mobile units and the network of over 2,400 social‑assistance entities across the state.
At the same event, the state‑owned utility group Cemig announced the "Economia para os Mineiros" solar‑subscription scheme. Through its subsidiary Cemig SIM, consumers with monthly bills up to R$ 300 can receive up to a 26 % reduction on their electricity charges by buying photovoltaic energy produced in Minas Gerais – a source that already accounts for about 40 % of Brazil’s solar output. Sign‑up is fully digital and requires no equipment installation, aiming to make clean energy affordable for more Minas residents.
