Minas Gerais launches statewide child and teen vaccination drive
The Minas Gerais state government began a Multivaccination 2026 campaign on 1 June, running through 30 June, to update immunisations for children and adolescents up to 14 years 11 months 29 days. The program offers vaccines from the national schedule—including pentavalent, BCG, hepatitis A/B, polio, pneumococcal, varicella, DTP, HPV, rotavirus, meningococcal C, yellow fever, influenza, triple viral and COVID‑19—through local primary health units and mobile units (vacimóveis).
State Health Secretary Fábio Baccheretti said vaccination is the most effective way to prevent immunisable diseases such as measles, noting that Brazil is free of the disease but neighbouring countries still see transmission. Since 2023 the state has invested over R$ 530 million in vaccination, achieving a record 16.4 million doses administered in 2025 and positioning Minas as the second‑best state in coverage, aiming for the top spot.
The campaign also includes a targeted effort at the Confins International Airport in Belo Horizonte from 1‑3 June, protecting workers and travellers ahead of the FIFA World Cup 2026. Airport operations manager Fabiano Reis highlighted the strategic role of vaccinating airport users. A “Day D” mobilisation is scheduled for 20 June to boost outreach across municipalities.
