Minas Gerais municipal workers face continued strike and court setback

The municipal workers’ strike in Divinópolis, Minas Gerais, persisted on 10 July 2026, with the Sintram union organizing a protest against a newly approved municipal pension reform. Six municipal schools resumed classes or were scheduled to reopen, while the union called for further negotiations over pension and career issues.

Separately, a judicial panel rejected the union’s request for an injunction that would have shielded municipal education staff from salary deductions or administrative penalties for missing the “Dia E da Educação” event. The court’s decision leaves the original summons from the Municipal Education Secretariat in place, meaning employees must comply with the event’s attendance requirements unless a later ruling changes the situation.
