Minas Gerais rescued 5,651 people from slave labor since 2013

Between 2013 and 2026, the Regional Superintendency of Labor in Minas Gerais rescued 5,651 people from conditions analogous to slavery. During this period, labor inspectors identified 7,731 cases of slave-like labor and 3,676 victims of human trafficking.

Inspection efforts covered 1,042 companies and reached 43,806 employees. These operations resulted in 10,665 notices of violation, the formalization of 4,566 employment contracts, and the granting of unemployment insurance to 5,475 workers. In 2026 alone, 416 workers have been rescued so far.

Companies found guilty of such practices are placed on a list of employers who subjected workers to slave labor for a period of two years and are subject to administrative fines. The data will be discussed at a seminar hosted by the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG) regarding the challenges and perspectives of the working world.
