Mindanao quake recovery coordinated by local and national officials

The Philippine government is intensifying coordinated recovery efforts after a powerful earthquake struck Southern Mindanao. In General Santos City, Mayor Lorelie Pacquiao led a meeting on June 14 to assess damage, direct relief operations and discuss funding for rebuilding damaged government buildings and infrastructure. The city remains under a state of calamity as officials aim to restore services and support affected residents.

The Mindanao Development Authority (MinDA) urged a unified, whole‑of‑government approach, emphasizing both immediate humanitarian assistance and long‑term community resilience. MinDA Chairperson Secretary Leo Tereso Magno highlighted rapid assessments to target aid to displaced families and to guide resource allocation. The agency stressed collaboration among government units, development partners, NGOs and the private sector to avoid duplication and to strengthen disaster preparedness for future events.
