Chessington World of Adventures to host first Minecraft hotel and coaster

Merlin Entertainments and Mojang Studios have announced the development of ‘Minecraft World’, a £50 million immersive expansion at Chessington World of Adventures in south-west London, scheduled to open in 2027.

The project includes the world’s first Minecraft-themed hotel, featuring 69 rooms across four floors. The accommodations will include 20 premium and 49 standard rooms designed with the game’s signature blocky aesthetic, incorporating biomes, mobs, and items into the decor. Amenities such as an underwater-themed restaurant and a bar inspired by the Woodland Mansion will also be available.

Additionally, the expansion will feature the world’s first Minecraft rollercoaster, titled ‘Escape the Nether’. This indoor-outdoor attraction will transport riders through dark mines before launching them through a Nether portal into an Overworld-themed area. The new land will also include themed retail shops, interactive play areas, and opportunities for guests to meet Minecraft characters.
