Miner found dead after 103-hour rescue operation in Cucunubá
Emergency responders have recovered the body of Andrés Felipe Malaver Guzmán, a miner who had been trapped in the La Gallinacera coal mine in Cucunubá, Cundinamarca. The discovery follows a 103-hour search and rescue operation.
The incident began on Friday, October 16, when an influx of water flooded the underground galleries, preventing the worker from exiting. Rescue teams spent more than four days pumping accumulated water and assessing safety conditions to access the shaft.
The operation involved the National Mining Agency (ANM), the National Police, the Red Cross, the Ubaté Volunteer Firefighters, and personnel from the operating company Sociedad MyM S.A.S. Authorities are expected to investigate the causes of the flooding and evaluate safety measures at the mining site.
