Mining and military incidents in Colombia
Overview
In October 2026, two separate incidents occurred in Colombia involving missing persons. In Cucunubá, Cundinamarca, a 103-hour rescue operation concluded with the recovery of the body of miner Andrés Felipe Malaver Guzmán, who became trapped after water flooded the La Gallinacera coal mine on October 16.
In a separate event in Segovia, Antioquia, professional soldier Andrés Casterbondo Macías was located alive after being missing for six days. He disappeared on October 18 following an attack involving explosives launched from drones, which preliminary reports suggest was carried out by alleged members of the FARC dissidents' 37th Front.
