Mining workers protest unpaid wages in Ankara
Mining workers from Doruk Madencilik and Eti Gümüş, both under Yıldızlar SSS Holding, are continuing their protest in Ankara for the sixth day. The workers are demanding the payment of unpaid wages, severance, and notice pay that have been owed for months.
During the demonstrations in front of the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources, several workers and union members were detained by police. While many miners have been released, Bağışan Aksu, an organizing specialist for the Independent Mine Workers Union (Bağımsız Maden-İş), remains in custody under charges of ‘inciting the public to hatred and enmity.’
The union and political figures, including CHP Deputy Chairman Orhan Sarıbal, have criticized the police interventions and detentions, stating that seeking labor rights is not a crime. While the holding has made claims regarding payments, union representatives dispute this, stating that the majority of the 580 workers involved have yet to receive their full entitlements.
