Ankara police detain mining workers protesting unpaid wages

More than 100 mining workers from Eti Gümüş and Doruk Madencilik, both owned by Yıldızlar SSS Holding, were detained in Ankara while attempting to protest unpaid wages and benefits at the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources.

The workers, represented by the Bağımsız Maden-İş Union, traveled to the capital to demand the fulfillment of payment schedules for salaries, severance, and notice pay. Union representatives stated that promised payments due on August 6 were not made, despite official labor inspection reports confirming the debts.

In response to the planned demonstration, the Ankara Governor's Office issued a 15-day ban on all public gatherings, protests, and press statements across the city, effective from August 9 to August 23. The Governor's Office cited the need to prevent excessive disruption to public services and citizen movement in the Çankaya district.
