Mining companies increase focus and investment in Peru
Macusani Yellowcake, a subsidiary of American Lithium Corp., has increased its planned investment for the Falchani lithium project in Puno, Peru, to US$ 834 million. The updated development plan aims to begin operations with an initial capacity of 25,000 tonnes of lithium carbonate annually for the first four years, with potential scaling to 100,000 tonnes in a third phase. The company noted that the deposit's lithium concentration of 3,000 ppm is significantly higher than typical concentrations found in Chile and Argentina.
Separately, Xali Gold is evaluating the sale of its mining assets in El Oro, Mexico, to refocus its resources on the Pico Machay gold project in Peru. The company is considering this reorganization to improve financial efficiency and concentrate technical efforts on its primary exploration initiatives in the Peruvian market.
