Lithium mining developments in Peru and Bolivia
Overview
Mining activities in the lithium sector are expanding in Peru and Bolivia. In Peru, Macusani Yellowcake, a subsidiary of American Lithium Corp., has increased its planned investment for the Falchani lithium project in Puno to US$834 million. The project targets hard-rock deposits with a concentration of 3,000 ppm. The development plan aims for an initial annual capacity of 25,000 tonnes of lithium carbonate for the first four years, with potential scaling to 100,000 tonnes in later phases. The company expects to seek exploitation approval by the second half of 2028.
In Bolivia, the state-owned Yacimientos de Litio Bolivianos (YLB) has reported operational improvements at the Llipi Industrial Complex near the Salar de Uyuni. The company is implementing a strategy to optimize plant capacities and address operational tasks through direct engagement with personnel.
