Mining environmental approvals in Peru and wetland legal disputes in Chile

In Peru, Senace has approved the second modification of the detailed Environmental Impact Study for the Acumulación Condestable mining unit. The project, managed by Compañía Minera Condestable S. A. in the Cañete province of Lima, received environmental certification following technical evaluations. The approval included favorable opinions from the National Water Authority (ANA) and various ministries, including Culture and Agriculture.

In Chile, legal questions have arisen regarding mining concessions located within the Rocuant-Andalién urban wetland in Talcahuano. While the existence of these concessions does not automatically cancel mining rights, legal experts suggest that the Urban Wetlands Law protects the entire ecosystem, including groundwater that feeds the wetland. Any physical alteration of such sites would require prior permission from the Biodiversity and Protected Areas Service (Sbap). Currently, regional mining authorities state there are no active projects seeking to exploit resources in that specific area.
