The Reinfo registry faces legal challenges, including an unconstitutionality lawsuit filed by the Loreto Bar Association in September 2026, while the National Confederation of Small Mining and Artisanal Mining of Peru (Confemin) is requesting a four-year extension. To streamline operations, the Ministry of Energy and Mines (Minem) is preparing an administrative reform to simplify or eliminate 27 of 96 identified permits and procedures. This initiative targets a $64 billion mining project portfolio and aims to increase annual copper production by one million tons within five to six years, moving beyond the current plateau of 2.5 to 2.7 million tons. In the southern region, Camino Minerals has received environmental approval to expand its Costa de Cobre exploration area by 94%, increasing its area to 11,671.9 hectares and enabling additional drilling capacity.
